I joined the Department of Civil Engineering at McMaster University in July 2022 as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor. I received my BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Sharjah and my PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke as a Vanier Scholar. Prior to joining McMaster, I was a Lecturer at the University of Sherbrooke and an FRQNT Postdoctoral Fellow at Laval University’s Laboratory of Nano- and Micromechanics.
I work on material-oriented integrated design of concrete structures with a particular focus on novel solutions in cement and concrete composites to support infrastructure sustainability, durability, and resilience. I employ a blend of experimental and numerical tools to address a variety of challenges including:
- Development of ecological cost-effective high-performance cement composites
- Controlling the volumetric instability of ultra-high-performance concrete
- Development of strain-hardening cementitious composites with controlled crack width
- Innovative repair solutions for aging concrete infrastructure
- Smart cement composites for sustainable and resilient concrete infrastructure
Trained and certified in the Pedagogy of Higher Education, I also have keen interest in Engineering Education, particularly in active-pedagogies, innovation in higher education, curricular reforms, and accreditation of academic programs.
